About

At Mafaan, we believe that laughter and shared experiences are the glue that holds families and communities together.

Our apparels are designed to capture the essence of celebrating the humor and playfulness of the Chinese culture.

Mission Statement

Sharing family laughs and lingo. Building or burning bridges (lol), one smile at a time.

About

We are two ABCs (American Born Chinese) kids who come from a family with 70+ members - aunts, uncles, cousins, 2nd cousins, 3rd cousins (maybe?.. who knows by now) and we are growing each year. These two siblings who know nothing about business or the apparel industry, want to share with others the humor we find through our family closeness aka the headaches, hassles and growing pains and love some of us have for each other.

Read below if you want to know ... How did "mafaan" all get started?

We grew up around majority of our family since we were babies - family dinners every other day (sometimes b2b) with a minimum of 20 relatives showing up. Talking to each other like they didn't just see each other yesterday. Everyone is close knit - I don't just mean close relationship - close in living distance too. Some of us lived walking distance away. Over the years of living so close to each other, relatives' errands became ours to complete. Yes, you read that right - their errands became ours to do.

What do I mean by that?

If we are going out (it can be to anywhere) and a relative finds out.. They would ask us to drop something off to another person's house or pick up something to bring home to them. (Now imagine a relative asking for something .. 99% of the time you go out - LOL.)

Why can't we say "no"?

Maybe this is by default a flaw in our human design that our mother instilled on us to always help the family out as much as we can. "If you can help, help." Thank you mom for helping to curate "Mafaan". Love you!

Why "Sacrificial Lamb"?

Sacrificial Lamb represents "a person or animal sacrificed for the common good." (Wikipedia). In the instance of being mafaan, we have to sacrifice our time for the common good of the family because to mom we should all help out family when they need it - even if it is helping with their errands.

Errands - During traffic hour, pick up this bag of lettuce and drop it off to Uncle then pick up the fresh chicken and bring it to Auntie . (True story, bro.)

Now, can you imagine, running an errand that is not yours during traffic?
